FAITH, HAIR AND PURPOSE
When God Changed My Relationship With Beauty
As my walk with God deepened, I became convicted about how heavily I depended on extensions for beauty.
I had worn extensions so consistently that caring for my natural hair felt inconvenient and overwhelming. I did not believe I had the time, patience or ability to manage it. After doing a big chop, I was left with approximately one inch of natural hair—and, for a year and a half, I did not return to wearing a weave.
I was forced to meet my own hair properly.
I had to learn what it needed, how to moisturize it, how to handle it gently and how to keep it protected without hiding from it. I discovered the value of rest, low manipulation, moisture retention and choosing methods based on the actual condition of the hair—not merely the finished style I wanted to achieve.
Over time, my hair changed.
It gained length, strength and moisture. More importantly, I gained confidence because I finally understood what to do with it and why.
That experience changed the way I served other women. It strengthened my belief that textured hair should not be handled with intimidation, frustration or unnecessary force. With the right understanding, methods and maintenance, it can be healthy, versatile, protected and beautifully elevated.
God used my own hair to teach me something I could eventually teach others.
